I wanted to let you know about something that we’ve got brewing here at PhoneFling. We’re working on a large-scale research project to work out how people’s online flirting and dating behavior has changed in this ultra-connected world.
We’re building on some of the good work that other organizations have done in this area in the past. Of particular note is the Pew Research Center who published some excellent research on online dating habits in the past. Unfortunately, the last time the research was refreshed was in 2006, so the information has already fallen behind reality.
The good news is that we are taking a pro-active approach and we will have some interesting results to share before too long. If you want to get involved in the survey, here’s the link to the online survey.
Not everyone realizes that we were in fact the very first mobile dating site in the United States. When we set up PhoneFling in 2006, we strongly believed in the potential for the mobile dating phenomenon. We believed that increasingly the mobile device was going to become the very center of our lives and that dating could and should be an important part of that. Though even we didn’t expect the mobile device to become *quite* as central to our lives as it has done, quite so fast.
The success of PhoneFling and the whole mobile dating industry has shown that we were right to pioneer the sector. Getting there first has certainly been an advantage for us, as we’ve had more time to get the service right. Strange as it may seem, making something simple and intuitive can take more time than making something complicated. We’ve also had the time to add in a lot more whistles and bells to the service, but without ever letting the innovations get in the way of it remaining a really fun, simple service.
We hope our users are having as much fun as we are, and from what we’ve seen, I think they are.

In this blog, we’ll be sharing some of the drama and insights from the fast-moving and fast-growing world of mobile dating. We think it’s a fascinating area and we hope that you’ll find it interesting too.
Some of what we write here will be about the updates we’re making to the site. Some of it will be about dating stories and dating tips. Some of it will be about trends across the whole dating “industry”. And some of it will be about stuff that we think is interesting and worth sharing with the world.
We’ll try to blog as often as we can. It’s a really rich and interesting area, so there will be plenty to say.
